We were recently surprised and very pleased with a visit
from Escuela alumni Elizabeth Maestri, Sonja Gandert and Mike
Rempen, pictured here with their EDS teacher, Ms. Shad.
Mike (or "Mikey" as we called him) was the commencement
speaker at the Bosque School's recent graduation ceremony
Thursday, May 26th. Mike will attend Chapman College in California
to pursue a career in filmmaking.
Elizabeth, who graduated along with Mike from the Bosque
School, will be attending the University of New Mexico - we
look forward to seeing a lot of her!
Sonja, a graduate of The Albuquerque Academy, will attend
Brandeis University this fall. We thank the parents of these
three wonderful young people for loaning them to Escuela for
so many years. We are also grateful to their families for
being such generous, ongoing supporters of our school.
We were also treated that week to a visit from Escuela's
long time music director, Mrs. Mary Donohoe. To top off a
great day, her son, Brian, also came for a "tour down
memory lane". One of our fondest memories is of Brian,
a talented jazz musician, playing his saxophone as his "commencement
speech" for our elementary graduates some years ago.
Brian and his older brother James grew up at Escuela; it was
a real treat to see so many alumni again!

In May of this year our Head of School celebrated her 25th anniversary at the Annual Year-End and Graduation ceremonies. Present for this wonderful event were Friedje's daughters, alumni of Escuela, and her mother, Winny vanGils. "Ms. Winny" was also a Montessori teacher until her retirement a few years ago.

Long-time Board of Directors member Ann Edenfield is pictured
here with her new husband, Doug Sweet, wedding attendants,
and her sons. (from left): Tommy, Curtis, Andrew and Stuart.
All four are alums of our school. Ann has worked on Escuela's
behalf for many years, creating the first parent organization,
working as Director of Development and starting the Harwood
After School program to reach out to at-risk and latchkey
children through our Arts Center. We hope all of you , Escuela's
extended family and friends will join us to celebrate Ann
Edenfield's 25th anniversary as a member of the Board in May,
2006!
Tommy Edenfield, Ann's oldest son, was one of two students
in Escuela's 1988 Elementary School graduating class. The
other was daughter of Head of School Friedje vanGils, Jeanne
vanGils Louderbough.
